About Us

We are Scott and Sonja Phelps and we own and operate this family business, Kodiak Sports & Tour, which is small and personal. We organize Kodiak Island sport fishing, wildlife viewing, and hunting vacations with the best guides and lodges we have come to know.

About Scott:
Scott lived in the Midwest before he came to Alaska in 1987 where he and a partner opened a grocery store in Port Lions. Scott also did commercial fishing for crab. Shortly upon arrival he recognized Kodiak as a great place that every outdoor enthusiast like himself must experience. He started his charter business in 1991 and guided fishermen, wildlife viewers, and hunters the next 15 years by charter boat.

About Sonja:
Sonja was born and raised in Holland and came to Alaska in 1995 where she met and married Scott. She works in the office and behind the scenes of Kodiak Sports & Tour. She loves being a mom, working in the yard, and hiking.

About family:
We have two children, Teal and Tanner. We also have a  a black lab named Gauge. As a family, we enjoy going out on the boat, fishing, hiking, and hunting.

We have really enjoyed the simple Alaskan life style in the village of Port Lions but we have recently relocated to Table Rock Lake area in Reeds Spring, Missouri to be closer to Scott's family and to create more opportunities for our children. Kodiak Sports & Tour is still fully operational and we are continuing to book Kodiak Alaska vacations - exactly the same as we did all these years. The only difference is that Scott will not be guiding anymore but we have several great guides we use for our trips. We will make Port Lions our own vacation destination each year, to visit with friends, and fill our freezers with fresh fish and deer!
